When your young racer gets his or her confidence up and starts pushing the limits of their skills, its only a matter of time before that first big crash occurs. Young racers begin to jump further and carry more speed over jumps. Coming up short or landing nose first can cause injury and a wake up call.
During a youngster’s first season of racing you can get away with a second hand helmet or an off brand. When you as a parent see the first major crash, then you will be interested in the 300 dollar helmet. Shoei, Bell, and Fox offer reasonably priced motocross helmets with added protection. Some of these helmets come with warranties and the confidence of a Snell rating. Take a look at these brands before your child racer gets too far past his or her limits.
The average age of a pro motocross racer continues to go down a little each year. Kids can race motocross as early as age 4 and there plenty of them trying. Some of the 4 year old racer still have training wheels on their bike during their first few motos. Kids need to be protected at this early age from injury.
Buying your young racer the best in kids motocross gear is important. Neck collars, and chest protection are key in any hard impact. Some pro riders wear roost guards for protection from rocks that are thrown from bikes ahead. These roost guard will not protect well in an impact with the ground.
Young riders need to wear something equivalent to a bull riding vest. The bull riding vest like the ones made by Abetta can protect ribs in falls and will also guard your child from flying rocks in race conditions. There have been many attempts at coping the bull riding vest design for motocross. However, the original design is still the best on the market.
The Red Bluff Outlaws winter indoor series is a great place to spend your December. When there is little excitement on most race tracks in December, the motors are blazing in Red Bluff.
The 13 race point series offers drivers a place to keep their driving skills sharp in the off months. Many drivers in the open class participate in other racing series during the regular season. Drivers come from the SRL stock car series, the Golden State Challenge Series for sprint cars to test their skills on the 10th mile indoor dirt track.
Outlaw Karts may not sound exciting to the average fan, but you must read on. The Red Bluff Outlaws cover the 10th mile track in under 9 seconds. Potentially making a 30 lap race complete in 4 and a half minutes. The style of racing at this track is comparable to Bristol for NASCAR or the Tulsa Expo Center for Midgets. The racing is always exciting and fun for all ages.
Some of the beginner classes include box stock for the kids age 5-13 and intermideate for ages 10-18. This is a great place to learn how to race and to keep sharp. Red Bluff Outlaws is also a great place to enjoy speed and competition while we wait for the dirt bike gear to come out of hibernation.
