Anyone who has ever ridden a dirt bike knows how important a well-fitting pair of motocross gloves is. Not only do the gloves protect your hands from debris and other hazards, they also improve your grip. But if the gloves don’t fit correctly, they can be uncomfortable and even dangerous.
To measure for your motocross gloves, wrap a tape measure around the middle of palm of your hand. Once you know the circumference, refer to the list below to determine your glove size:
~6 ½” = size 6
~7” = size 7
~8” = size 8
~8 ¼” = size 9
~8 ½” = size 10
~8 ¾” = size 11
~9” = size 12
The hole shot is a term used in all motorsports. Nowhere is the hole shot more important than in motocross. A hole shot in a motocross race will give you a top finish the majority of the time.
Hole shot definition in motocross: first one to the first corner.
Hole shot definition in drag racing: best reaction time. (A better reaction time can earn a drag racer a win in some cases even when he loses in overall elapsed time.) Again, showing the importance of a hole shot.
How does one accomplish the hole shot? Well, it has a lot to do with traction, equipment, and reaction time. The most horsepower is no good at the start line if it overpowers the traction the bike has. Leave the line too early, and hang the gate. If you hang the gate it has the opposite effect of a hole shot. Motocross is tight racing in close quarters. Needless to say it is difficult to pass. Pass everyone at the start line, you are 50% of the way to a great finish.
Best advice is focus. Once the 30 second board is put away, plant your motocross boots firmly into the ground and anticipate what happens next. First into the corner is a win in itself.
Off-road riders and racers need a good way to stay organized. Keeping your gear all in one place is a good way to start. With all the safety equipment you need like motocross helmets, motocross gloves, motocross boots, and other dirt bike gear, you need a big bag to carry it all.
Look into motocross gear bags that have all the methods to keep your dirt bike gear organized. Motocross gear bags have special compartments for your off road helmets and off road riding boots. The sections also have ventilation that allow the dirt bike gear to air out on the way home. The last thing you want is your dirt bike gear’s odors to be stuck in a bag with nowhere to go but in your face when you get home to unload. Motocross gear bags come in many different colors and designs. Take a look for your best deal on a motocross gear bag.
In a past blog the importance of wearing motocross jerseys was minimized. In the realm of safety, there are other pieces of gear that hold higher importance.
However, if you are looking for the best way to stay comfortable while riding, then the same motocross apparel that the pros use is the best bet. Motocross Jerseys provide a cooling effect that is needed for rides in the hot summer months. The tight sleeve closures together with a good motocross glove keep dirt off of your body. Finally the long tail of the shirt stays tucked in easily.
Motocross Jerseys come in hundreds of designs and styles including female designs. When you go to buy a jersey you will have plenty of quality options.
Although some youngsters grow up racing motocross and never stop loving it, some change their minds. Even some parents will change their minds about wanting their child to participate in motocross after the first 3 broken bones. There are some quality alternatives for motocross racers who would rather find their speed fix in something safer.
Micro Sprint racing is an entry level 4 wheeled motorsport which utilizes lightweight open wheel cars and motorcycle engines. Some versions use 250cc motorcycle engines but the more popular version is the 600cc class. The 600 class uses 600cc 4 cylinder engines from street bikes. Drivers as young as 7-8 years old can participate in 600cc racing in classes that use spacers in the carburator to reduce horsepower.
The 600cc classes that use unrestricted engines have around 125 horsepower and weigh at least 750 pounds. The high revving 600cc engines and light chassis provide immediate acceleration. The Micro Sprints race on track as small as 1/8th mile all the way up to 3/8 mile tracks where speeds will be at or above 100 mph.
Although none of your kids motocross gear can be used behind the wheel of a micro sprint, it is only slightly higher in cost. Much like motocross, there are many tracks that run various Micro Sprint classes all over the country. Even the best motocross gear can not protect you as well as a roll cage and a 5 point harness.
2007 F1 champion Kimi Raikkonen has spent his 2010 racing season on the WRC. Raikkonen is driving a Red Bull Sponsored Citroen C4 for the championship. Raikkonen made the move to WRC after failing to come to an agreement with a top level F1 team. Raikkonen was signed to drive for Ferrari through 2010 but was replaced by Fernando Alonso.
Kimi started off the season a little rough but has now finished as high as 5th place. Only one other driver besides Kimi has scored points in F1 and WRC. An amazing feat in itself. Could this move to WRC all be a part of a grand plan by Red Bull?
Red Bull sponsors Raikkonen in WRC. Raikkonen did not find an F1 ride for 2010. Mark Weber’s F1 contract expires with Red Bull in 2010. Could Raikkonen come back to F1 in 2010 driving for team Red Bull? Did Red Bull decide to keep Kimi busy on the WRC while letting him fulfill his dream for this year while waiting for an F1 seat to open up? Red Bull could be one step ahead of everyone in the FIA. Red Bull is a great drink, and the logo looks great on an dirt bike helmet. The shot callers at the top of Red Bull racing food chain can do much more than have a hand on every type of motorsport and action sport in the world. They can out think everyone in the F1 paddock too.
The 2011 Subaru WRX STI may go down as the best Off Road Rally vehicle ever made to date. The 305 horsepower, 4 cylinder, turbo charged, all wheel drive road hugger has gone above and beyond what we have seen in the past. The springs are stiffer, the horsepower is higher, the overall handling has been greatly improved. Not to mention the car looks much better than past designs.
The WRX STI cannot be denied! The only thing missing here is a WRC factory team! A Subaru Factory team would help prove the overall design of the vehicle. Subaru has been out of the WRC battlefield for 3 years. Hope to see change on the horizon for Subaru’s WRC team. The early STI helped Travis Pastrana hang up the dirt bike gear and take to 4 wheels. This awesome car is worth a look when it goes on the market at the end of 2010.
Eight races into the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship shows Ryan Dungey a comfortable 64 points ahead of second place rival and defending champion Chad Reed. The Red Bud Nationals 450 motocross was Dungey’s fifth win in a row. Making the point championship nearly a wrap.
Before the Pro riders of the AMA Motocross series hang up the motocross helmets for the season, they will see eight more events through September 11th. If Ryan Dungey can ride smart, finish strong, and avoid injury, the season championship may lack drama for the remaining 8 races. From what we have seen this season from Ryan Dungey, there will be no points-racing to be had. Expect to see him battling for the win every week.
Sponsored rider Kody DeRuyter will take to the motocross track this weekend at the Tuolumne County Fair. Kody is fresh off of his first win as a motocross racer and is looking forward to another great finish.
Kody will strap on his motocross boots this Saturday looking to follow up his first win in the 50cc class. Look for Kody and his 50cc Cobra in Sonora, California this weekend. Good luck!
Holiday weekends are great for motorsports. Relax, enjoy the weather and your family.
NASCAR’s top 2 divisions race this weekend at its most decorated track, Daytona. Joining the NASCAR racers at Daytona will be the GrandAm Road Racing Series in their 100th race, Brumos 250. While all the excitement on the big track goes on, the dirt bike gear will also be out in force.
Lucas Oil motocross will race round six of its series in Buchanan Michigan. The AMA Flat Track series and Road Race Series will take the weekend off. The motocross series will sport its best women of the sport also. Round 4 of the women’s series will also be in Michigan.
Its will be a great weekend of motorsports action, so whether you’re sporting your favorite rider’s sponsored motocross gear or your favorite NASCAR driver’s car number, have a great holiday weekend.
