The Baja 1000 started in 1967 and has become a world wide event. Participants come from all over the world to try their hand at navigating the Baja California terrain.
The Baja is not always 1000 miles of competition. Depending on which route is used the mileage of the race can vary. There are 7 classes of motorcycles and 2 classes of ATVs. Factory backed teams have chase vehicles and helicopters to run support. If you are an independent rider, you’ll need to pack your enduro jacket full of tools and supplies. There will be little help in the Baja for mechanical problems. Preparation is a must, proper navigation is critical. The Baja 1000 is a must do for serious racers just like Pikes Peak and The Dakar Rally
Rickey Carmichael is running very well this year on 4 wheels. Rickey is currently in 6th place in season points in the Truck Series. Carmichael has made strong improvement over last season including 3 top tens in 6 races.
Carmichael has been able to do what most could never do. Rickey is learning how to be a racer in one of the top 3 stock car racing series in the country. Carmichael’s talent and commitment on 2 wheels has earned him the ability to keep sponsors on his 4 wheel efforts. His sponsors include Monster Energy, Oakley, Fox Motocross Gear, and DC Shoes. Most of these sponsors have backed Rickey since his 2 wheel days.
There are a variety of motocross boots on the market for a variety of purposes. Whether you are riding motocross, supermoto, flat track, road bike, casual trail riding, or enduro there is a boot made for your purpose.
Commonly motocross boots are constructed with shock absorbent soles, while supermoto and road boots have replaceable soles due to the foot drag factor. A rider can utilize a low top boot for casual trail riding on a Rhino or other Side-by-Side. No matter what you are riding, comfort and durability during your are always top concerns.
Children grow up fast. You feel like it was just yesterday that you bought his first 50cc bike. Now you just moved him to the 125cc class and things begin to change.
As discussed in previous blog post, riders between 5-7 years old need to just have a good time at the track so fun, family time, and racing become one emotional experience. At age 12 its time to start talking about pushing the limits. Throttle control and rider conditioning become critical to the young rider’s results. You can no longer hide that winning is the objective of any race day. Right around the time that you trade all your kids motocross gear for men’s sizes, is the time you begin to get serious.
Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a must for all die hard 2 wheel racers. Elevation is the biggest challenge for riders and drivers alike. On top of a 156 turn 12 mile course there is another challenge. No guard rails!
A wipe out on the Pikes Peak course can be terminal. There are no guard rails along the side of the course meaning you could go over the edge. Remember the starting elevation is 9,000 feet. There is no gentle landing in store if a rider does go off course. Make sure you bring your expensive motocross helmet to this occasion. You may appreciate it later.
Women have a much greater presence in motocross than they have in years past. It is not uncommon to see women compete in motocross competitions in their own divisions or against the boys.
Women have won championships on 2 wheels as early as 10 years ago in NHRA with Angelle Sampey (Seeling). She won championships in dominating fashion in 2000-2002.
Now companies are designing gear specificly for female motocross riders including motocross boots. The fact that major motocross apparel companies have a line of female gear is a sign that there is a large market out there for women riders in motocross.
I grew up riding dirt bikes around our family farm with my brothers and sisters. In fact, I know how to drive a dirt bike better than I know how to drive a car. My parents even joke that my mom had me while riding a dirt bike. I know it’s just a joke, but sometimes I like to tell my friends that just to get a rise out of them.
There’s nothing I want more than a dirt bike of my own. I have been working a part time job for the past two years in order to save enough money for my dream dirt bike. Until then, I am riding some of my friend’s vehicles and stocking up on an assortment of mens motocross jerseys and other gear.
Men ride motorcycles for a lot of reasons. Speed, thrill, pushing the limits. Finding the limits the hard way. Above all, we do it for the girls. The hot girls walking around the track that make us go crazy.
Hot girls in motocross jerseys just cannot be beat. Thanks to all the sponsors who choose to advertise with the best methods of grabbing attention in mind.
This June America’s second oldest motor race takes place in Colorado. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a demanding race that will test the strength and conditioning of every rider. The Pikes Peak course is only 12.42 miles of pavement and gravel but the race begins at 9,000 foot elevation! The finish line is at the top of the mountain at over 14,000 foot of elevation!
Any rider who wants to participate has to consider the challenges. The air at this elevation is thin and will suck the horsepower out of your bike once you begin the climb. On top of that the riders will feel much more fatigued with the thin air. All riders will have to bring the best equipment including the best and lightest motorcross gear possible. Every little bit of preparation will help.
With the course begining on pavement and then switching to gravel at the top, tire choice will be critical. Grip will be key in making a quick run up the hill. Any die hard motorcycle enthusiast needs to put this race on their bucket list.
In the continuous hunt for speed thrills, take a look at Rally Racing. Rally Racing can take place on dirt, tarmac, snow, mud, gravel, well just about anywhere. The versatility of the car driven in a rally is key. Most rally cars a all wheel drive but front wheel drive is also very competitive.
Much like supermoto rally cars can be on different surfaces during the same run. For example a stage run may start on dirt and end on gravel. Rally cars reach high speeds on unpredictable terrain. A co-driver navigates and gives instructions to the driver on what type, and speed the next corner is allowing the driver to adjust. Rally can be very exciting and challenging much like motocross and supermoto. However, you will have to trade your motocross boots and enduro jackets for a nomex driving suit and nomex shoes.
Rally maybe the best form of motorsports your not watching.
