When enjoying the outdoors with your kids, you always do your best to keep them safe. Taking an off road ride with the whole family can be relaxing and exciting. Parents can all relax even more when the newest rider can finally handle his or her own bike without assistance.
Help the newest riders get comfortable faster by using training wheels. There are a number of manufacturers who build training wheels sturdy enough for a small motocross bikes. This item will fit right in with all the other dirt bike apparel you have already purchased to make your child a little safer. Training wheels give a new rider a chance to learn step by step. Throttle control, braking, and steering can be learned before balance even comes into play.
Quad biking is another all-terrain vehicle sport that is a good alternative to motocross. Most parents see the danger of letting their children ride motorcycles at incredible speeds, so letting your children ride a quad bike instead is preferred by some. A quad is like a motorcycle except it has four wheels, which means it has better stability than motorcycle.
For beginners, training is required. In the training, participants are taught how to drive through the terrain or woods, uphill and downhill drives, and go over jumps. Another important consideration for quad bikers is the gear and apparel they need to use. Accessories include helmet, off road gloves, and protective clothes. After learning the basics, it is best to familiarize yourself to the track first before engaging into the actual drive. Once you are well-equipped with the fundamental, you can now kick start and enjoy with your newfound sport.
Any race fan is familiar with the long days at the track. A long hot day at the track can be made better by snacks and shade.
On your list of motocross accessories, consider comfortable shoes for the pits and a large shady umbrella. 2 products that make waiting for your moto a little less strenuous.
Racers seek out new challenges. New race tracks in new towns with better competition is always on a racer’s mind. Don’t let getting yourself to the track be one of those challenges you seek.
Organization is key. Every racer has a tool box. Have a tool box for all your dirt bike gear. Stock an ice chest for those long breaks between runs with lots of snacks. Travel smart, and travel cheap.
There are a number of riders on race tracks across the country that risk their safety because they think motocross accessories are too heavy or too uncomfortable. Many injuries sustained by riders could have been prevented had they chosen to wear a widely used safety item.
To the credit of the motocross industry, there are more quality options for the safety of a rider today then years ago. Thanks to the industry, many riders will grow up riding with full gear as a youngster and be used to the extra weight as an adult. Motorsports safety across the board has come a long way. Every bit of protection helps.
50cc off road bikes are the perfect size and speed for a very young child to learn how to ride. Some parents feel safer with a child’s quad and move to a 2 wheeled bike later on. As a parent it is your job to spend money on the safety equipment not a top of the line race bike in the beginning. So now you did your job and purchased the best kids motocross gear you could find, and you child is ready to ride. Well..
One more item can help your 4 or 5 year old have a good experience during his or her first ride on 2 wheels. Limit the throttle. If your child has already ridden a quad he or she will know what to do; squeeze the throttle and go! Don’t let your child find out the hard way that a bike is much harder to control. Adjust the throttle cable to only open one quarter or half the full amount. As the new rider gains control, then open the throttle to 100%. Both parent and child will be thankful.
There is no doubt that motocross racing is a physically demanding sport. Strength conditioning and cardio conditioning are important to a rider that expects to compete at a professional level. A rider’s arms and legs take a beating acting as additional suspension for the core of your body.
Muscle fatigue can set in on a rider’s forearms very quickly. Pay close attention during a motocross practice day and you will see plenty of riders off course shaking out their hands trying to loosen up tightened forearm muscles. Some riders put a “death grip,” onto the handle bars that increases forearm fatigue. Using off road gloves with less padding in the palm and a grip enhanced palm, can increase the feel a rider has with the handle bars. This type of glove will help a rider find the correct pressure they have to apply to have a firm grip without a fatigue prone death grip.
All dirt bike riders and motocross racers must think about injury prevention.Freestyle motocrossers need even more protection. There are so many ways an rider can be injured while riding and while crashing.
Motorcycle body armor is one of the best tools to protect your upper body. One piece upper body armor protects the back from just below the neck to the pelvis. Shoulder, biceps, elbows, chest, and forearms all have molded plastic and foam liners to absorb impact. Built in kidney belts are included. Body armor suits do not restrict movement, and have removable sections to customize to a riders needs. Body armor can be worn over or under the jersey.
Many factors may influence a rider’s decision when purchasing a helmet. A helmet that looks great is a priority, but is not the most important factor. Snell rated helmets are important for riders that are pushing their limits. DOT helmets are sufficient for the average rider and kids.
All riders need to consider comfort and weight when choosing their helmet. Most motocross helmets are in the 3 to 4 pound range. The higher the weight the more prone the rider is to fatigue. Secondly, a helmet that does not fit properly will make the helmet “feel,” like it weighs more than it actually does. A helmet that shifts on your head allows for the helmet’s center of gravity to be less than desirable. Uneven weight distribution while riding will take it’s toll on your neck. A comfortable fitting light weight helmet with awesome graphics is the best buy for all riders.
Racing fanatics around the world have been trying to build the best young motorsports athlete ever since Jeff Gordon was first unleashed in a 410 sprint car at age 13. Yes a sprint car is an 800 horsepower, 1200 pound rocket on dirt ovals. Jeff Gordon was put into the top series of NASCAR at age 21. The average age of a professional race car driver has been getting younger ever since.
Today’s pro drivers hit the scene before their 21st birthday, but a pro motocrosser is in his teens. In the last 5-7 years there has been another revolution in 4-wheel motorsports. Taking motocross racing’s top athletes and moving them to the 4 wheel world. Travis Pastrana, Ricky Carmichael, Brian Deegan, and Jeff Ward started their careers on 2-wheels and now make a living on 4-wheels. Only in motorsports can an athlete rise to the top of their sport and then retire, just to start over in another form of motorsports again as a professional. So a true investment in your child’s future may be in kids motocross gear rather than a t-ball bat, and glove.
