The Red Bull US Grand Prix is this weekend at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. The historic race track in Monterey, California will host the greatest road racersin the world. Not to mention, its a great event to ride your motorcycle to. The track accommodates bike traffic very well for this race that will be broadcast around the world.
The road racer of the Moto GP World Championship sport heavy leathers, not motocross gear. Something we don’t look into very often, but this is a great event. Don’t forget, the umbrella girls will be out in force advertising for their team’s sponsors. Begins Friday July 22.
is a starting ground for some of the world’s best racers. Top drivers like Lewis Hamilton, and Dario Franchitti got their start in karts. Successful kart drivers have various national, and world championships to compete in. Those champions have a direct route into single seater racing in the US and in many other countries in the world.
Young racer can start in karting as early as age 4. There are special karts made for small children that are for racing use only. We all know that motorsports helps teach children discipline and sportsmanship. In karting there is a premium put on sportsmanship. Bumping and banging is not tolerated by many kart clubs. Kart clubs that sanction events will issue penalties for rough driving.
One of the most difficult parts of starting your child in a go-kart is track time. If you are a member of a kart club you can usually practice any day of the week as long as the sun is up. But that’s just it, you can’t just run the kart anywhere. You need a track.
Typically a kart is going to cost a bit of money. And if your going to go fast you’ll need to spend more. Luckily there are many spec classes that keep costs down, but you can’t stay in a spec class forever. If your son or daughter is going to race for a long time, be ready to spend a lot. In karts, talent will only get you so far. You will need horsepower to be one of the best. This is true in many motorsports but more so in karting than motocross. In motocross a talented rider can make up for missing horsepower for much longer than a karter can.
Despite the cost thousands of youngsters start their racing dreams in karts. What’s your vote? Dirt bike gear or race suit for Christmas?
The superstars of the Lucas Oil Outdoor Motocross had this weekend off. But there was a whole lot of motorsports to take its place. The dirt bike gear of Chad Reed, Ryan Villopoto, and Ryan Dungey will return to action July 23 in Washington state. Here’s a quick wrap up of this weekend’s winners.
NASCAR Sprint Cup- Kyle Busch won the first ever Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway. Busch, and Brad Keselowski dominated the event. A late race caution with 2 laps to go saw Busch beat David Reutimann and Jimmie Johnson to the line. Kyle Busch is the new points leader.
NASCAR Nationwide-Brad Keselowski won the Friday night event at Kentucky Speedway. Keselowski stretched his fuel mileage to beat Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch for the win.
NASCAR Camping World Trucks- Kyle Busch won a crazy Thursday night Truck race by staying out of trouble. Top contenders Austin Dillon, Ron Hornaday, Nelson Piquet Jr, and Johnny Sauter all had problems late in the race. Busch was followed by rookie Parker Kilgerman.
Formula 1- Fernando Alonso won the Grand Prix at Silverstone. A slow pit stop moved then leader Sebastian Vettel to second place during the last pit stop. Vettel stayed in second place for his second loss of the year and worst finish. When second place is your worst, your doing something right. Mark Webber finished third.
Grand Am- John Fogerty and Alex Gurney broughtthe Bob Stallings Gainsco Chevy home in the lead at Mazda Raceway. The Gainsco Chevy took the lead and never looked back. Scott Pruett was second.
IRL-Dario Franchitti won the Toronto street race in a rough event that saw many contenders taken out in accidents. Will Power did not finish after 2 seperate run-ins. Franchitti expanded his points lead over Will Power.
What a weekend!
If you havent had your fill of motorsports yet, get ready of the Baja 500! This weekend June 3-5th is the 43rd SCORE Baja 500. This is the 3rd race of the SCORE racing season.
Robby Gordon will bring his off road gloves, and plenty of Speed Energy Drink to Mexico to attempt to win the desert classic. Gordon says he may run his Dakar Rally prepared Hummer for the Baja 500 and leave the trophy truck at home. Gordon says he can finish the Baja 500 on 1 single tank of fuel in the Hummer! And Gordon says the Hummer can reach speeds of 165 MPH versus the Trophy Truck that tops out at 135MPH!
Either way, best of luck to Robby Gordon. The guy who does everything his way, and does it well. Did I mention he’s also living my dream!
Heart break. Rookie J.R Hildebrand did the unthinkable this past Memorial Day weekend. Hildebrand was leading the biggest race in the world on the final lap with a large lead over second place. All looked well for the rookie until he came out of turn 4 too high and hit the wall.
Second place car Dan Wheldon past J.R at the line to win his second 500. The rookie slid his car against the wall and across the finish line for a second place finish. The race car destroyed and the driver in disbelief.
What happend? Did Hildebrand’s team not tell him that he had a big lead and he could take it easy? Did the young rookie just get jittery and lose control? Either way, Hildebrand is no doubt going to be a star in motorsports whether its at Indy or F1. But that one’s gonna hurt. Reports always say “we always forget who finished in second place.” But I think this time everyone will remember this second place finish.
Memorial Day weekend brought on a whole lot of great racing on 4 wheels. We plan to get back to motocross racing, off-road and dirt bike gear real soon.
April 23 is a well deserved weekend off for the riders of the AMA Supercross Series. The riders will pick up in Utah next weekend with only 2 rounds to go.
The championship points are unbelievably close with Utah and Vegas left on the calendar. 4 riders have a legitimate shot at the title. None of the riders can just shoot for top fives and hope for the best. They all need to go out to win.
James Stewart is in 4th 9 point s behind leader Villopoto. Stewart could win the remaining events and still not win the championship if Villopoto finishes second in both events.
Defending champion Ryan Dungey is third 7 points out of the lead. This is another rider who needs to ride hard, win and make no mistakes to become a repeat champion. Can Dungey do better than just a podium?
Chad Reed has been the under dog the whole season. His brand new Two Two motorsports team is now recieveing technical assistance from Honda Factory because Trey Canard is unable to finish the season. Could the Honda support be the difference that makes Reed a champion? 2 more events and we will know.
Ryan Villopoto, well he walked away from the field of riders early in the season and made it look like the race was for second. With a streak of poor finishes and missing the main event once RV has allowed for the season to be competitive again. RV can shut everyone down with a couple of wins.
Whoever takes the 2011 title will need to have a notation next to their name. That notation should say “Champion of the most competitive Supercross season ever.” Good luck to all four of the motocross jerseys left in this championship battle. Who’s gonna win?
Travis Pastrana has added a stock car race to his already busy schedule. Pastrana will participate in the Blue Ox 100 at the Richmond International Raceway April 28. The Blue Ox 100 is part of a three day NASCAR show at Richmond International.
Thursday the 28th the NASCAR K&N East Series will run it’s 100 lap race. Friday the 29th the NASCAR Nationwide Series will run 250 laps. Finally on Saturday the NASCAR Sprint Cup cars will run a 400 lap event to wrap up the weekend. No motocross gear on this weekend! Getting Pastrana experience in a stock car event is important considering his first Nationwide race is this summer.
Despite only racing with other cars on the track twice, Pastrana finished 6th back in January at the NASCAR Allstar Showdown. Die hard Pastrana fans are anticipating a successful NASCAR career for the young dare devil. Good luck and many top fives to you Mr. Pastrana
After a great rookie campaign in 2011 Trey Canard will not be able to complete the season. Canard was injured during a testing crash in Southern California.
Canard fractured his leg and will not bring the factory Honda Motocross Jersey back to victory lane this year. Canard won 3 events so far this season and had a chance at finishing in the top 5 in points. Wishing Canard a speedy recovery.
Infineon Raceway will play host a huge moto weekend beginning May 11. The event will offer 5 different types of moto
events on 4 different race tracks on the Raceway grounds.
The big ticket of the weekend is the AMA Pro Road Racing event on the big track. Leading up to the AMA road race event there will be Supermoto, Motocross, Flat Track, and Electric Motorcycle Racing. Don’t forget the Infineon Raceway Girls will also be on hand for the event.
Break out all your motocross gear and support your favorite rider, or just enjoy the atmosphere. This is a must for all California moto fans and riders alike.
A good motocross jersey looks good, feels good, and doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg. The best way to determine if your motocross jersey is the best for you is to ask a friend what they think.
Ok you can just ask a friend to model one for you. Here’s a few examples just for you.
